World-Class Fishing in Remote Luxury
Our American Plan Lodge is located on large island on Dogskin Lake, about a 45 minute flight from our floatplane base in Silver Falls, Manitoba. In addition to the spectacular walleye and northern pike fishing that this part of Manitoba is known for, we have some of the finest accommodations you'll find in the wilderness. Combine that with a great chef, a friendly and helpful staff, high quality boats and motors and you'll find that Dogskin Lake Lodge is one of the ultimate fly-in fishing destinations.
Dogskin Lake Lodge has been designed to handle any size of group, from father/daughter trips to corporate incentive trips of well over 40. Each and every group will have their own accommodations complete with a bathroom and three-season porch. If you are looking to bring a large group, keep in mind that groups of 24 and above have the option to reserve the entire lodge for themselves.
A Walleye and Pike Haven
The lakes at our lodge and outposts contain a great combination of walleye and northern pike. In addition, the angler may catch other species of fish such as jumbo perch, burbot, whitefish or sucker. Each year our guests catch and release a large number of Master Angler walleye and pike. In Manitoba, a Master Angler walleye is 28" (10 pound class) and a Master Angler pike is 41" (20 pound class). Other Provinces use much smaller sizes for their Master Angler programs.
Fishing at Dogskin Lake first started to take off in the late 1950's. Due to the exceptional walleye and northern pike fishing, local demand for the lake grew and the original lodge was soon constructed. Over the years it became known as fantastic fishing destination to people throughout North America. In 1985, the region around Dogskin Lake was designated as Manitoba's first wilderness park. The highly protected 1500 square miles ensures that this area of Canada will forever remain pristine.
HIGH QUALITY FISH MANAGEMENT
Over 20 years ago we bought Dogskin Lake Lodge and Outposts because we were looking for an area that had spectacular walleye and northern fishing. We were also interested in Manitoba as they were much more forward thinking in their fishing management. We decided to immediately implement out own High Quality Fish Management program to preserve and protect this valuable resource. Our guests are allowed to keep walleye in the range of 14" to 17" for meals. Everything else goes back to be caught again another day. Guests that have been coming up for many years have made comments about the increase in size of the larger fish. Since it takes a long time to grow the Master Angler sized fish, we're glad that we were one of the first lodges to implement a strategy like this.
Many of our guests obtain a graphite replica of their trophy fish after taking some basic measurements and photographs. The quality of the mount is excellent and you'll be happy to know that someone else has a chance to catch that same trophy again.
Private Luxury Cabins
Guest accommodations at the Lodge consist individual cabins located on a scenic boardwalk overlooking the lake. Each cabin has been designed to allow our guests to relax in comfort after a long day out on the water. All are equipped with a private bathroom complete with a shower and toilet, thermostat controlled heaters, fans and a three season porch. Some of the cabins are also equipped with a living room complete with couches and chairs. Our cabins are designed to hold from two guests to sixteen in comfort. Daily maid service is provided as is all linens, comforters and pillows.
Quality Equipment
At Dogskin Lake Lodge, we value our guest comfort, safety, and the ability to go after fish day after day. That is why you'll find top quality 16' Lund walk-through boats equipped with Yamaha 25 Hp 4-stroke motors. All boats are equipped with up to three high-back swivel seats, floatation cushions, life jackets, anchors, landing nets and measuring tapes. They are checked, cleaned and fueled daily by our dedicated staff. If you are going to be utilizing a guide during your stay, you'll be taken out in our Alaskan guide boats equipped with 40Hp Yamahas.
Chef-Prepared Meals and Daily Shorelunch
MADE TO ORDER BREAKFAST
Next to fishing, food is one of the things that we most enjoy at Dogskin. It starts off with your made to order breakfast, along with Red River cereal, juices, Canadian jams and fresh coffee that you'll smell on your way up the boardwalk. Cookies and fruits are set out to bring with you during your morning of fishing.
DAILY STAFF-PREPARED SHORELUNCH
Everyday around 11:00 our staff goes out to pick up your stringer of fish. We then prepare one of the tastiest shore lunches you'll find anywhere. You just show up and enjoy. If you would prefer to have some sandwiches made up instead, we can do that too.
CHEF-PREPARED DINNER
For Dinner, our chef prepares a delicious entree to be served in the lodge dining room. The meal is complete with homemade soup, fresh bread and one of our signature desserts. A variety of wines are available for your dining pleasure. Two of our many treats that guests love are our walleye chowder and the bumbleberry pie topped with our homemade Hog-n-Dogskin ice cream!
