Why Dogskin
What you actually get with us — and why our guests have been coming back for decades
Honest reasons our guests pick us — and keep picking us
There are a lot of fly-in fishing lodges in Manitoba. Here's what makes Dogskin specifically worth your week. Eight things that are factually true, and one set of numbers that took 27 years to earn.
Our guests come back. Then they come back again.
of guests who first visited a decade ago have returned
of returning guests come back two, three, or more times
families have been fishing Dogskin for 10+ years
is our longest-tenured guest's run, since 1997
More than a third of guests who first visited Dogskin a decade ago have returned at least once. Of those returners, more than 60% have come back two, three, or more times. Forty-five families have been fishing here for ten years or more — six of them for twenty.
When you build a trip around the same lake, the same staff, and the same stories year after year, it stops feeling like a vacation and starts feeling like a tradition. We know our returning guests by name. We know their kids. We know their favorite cabins.
Eight things that are factually true about Dogskin
A Full Main Lodge AND 3 Exclusive Outpost Lakes
Two very different fishing experiences, one operator. Book the American Plan main lodge and let the chef feed you while you fish 7,000 acres of home water. Or book one of three exclusive outpost lakes for a deeper wilderness trip on your own cabin, your own water. Most lodges commit to one format. We run both, fully.
One Hour from Winnipeg, Then a 45-Minute Float
Drive to the Adventure Air floatplane base at Lac du Bonnet in about an hour from Winnipeg. The flight to the lake is another 45 minutes to an hour over Atikaki wilderness — every mile is part of the trip. You arrive in time for shore lunch on the first day.
The Dogskin Fishing App — Free for Every Guest
Custom iOS app for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. Live weather at the lake, depth contours on the map, catch logging with photos, offline maps, Apple Watch quick-log. Built by the lodge specifically for our water. Free to download and free to use.
Starlink WiFi at the Lodge AND Every Outpost
Stay connected when you want to. Disconnect when you don't. Starlink at the main lodge AND at all three outpost cabins means you can text the family at home, share your trophy walleye photo, or download offline maps before heading out — even from the most remote outpost.
Among the First in Canada to Go Catch-and-Consume
Back in the 1990s, when most of the industry was going hard on catch-and-release, the Torgersons made the voluntary call to keep 14- to 17-inch walleye for shore lunch and release everything else. The fishery has stayed healthy ever since. Shore lunch the way our grandparents did it.
Family-Owned Since 1996, Operating Since 1969
Three generations of Torgersons have run Dogskin Lake Lodge. The lodge itself has been operating since 1969 — fifty-seven years of fly-in fishing on the same water. Some of our guests have been coming nearly that long.
Kids 17 & Under Are Half-Price at the Lodge
Bring the kids. Bring the grandkids. Kids 17 and under are half-price at the main lodge with one paying adult. The most family-friendly fly-in trip you'll find in Manitoba.
7,000 Acres of Deeded Exclusive Water
Plus another 3,000 acres on portage lakes. All inside Atikaki Provincial Park, a UNESCO Pimachiowin Aki World Heritage Site — one of the largest protected wilderness areas in North America. When you're on Dogskin, you're not sharing the water with another lodge. You're not even close to one.
We're not the biggest lodge in Manitoba.
We're not the most expensive.
We're a family operation that's been running fly-in fishing trips for nearly six decades. We invest in the things that matter — exclusive water, modern technology that respects the wilderness, family-friendly pricing, and a fishery that we've managed responsibly since the 1990s. That's why our guests come back.
If that sounds like the kind of trip you'd want to take, we'd love to host you.
